How to Install an OpenSSH Client

  1. Type in ssh and press Enter in the terminal.
  2. Install the OpenSSH client: sudo apt-get install openssh-client
  3. Check availability type in ssh localhost and hit enter.
  4. If you get connection refused message Run sudo apt-get install openssh-server ii.
  5. Check status sudo service ssh status
  6. To Exit press control + c

Tip

If you require access to the config files use a terminal text editor nano or vim

  1. run sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config
  2. install nano sudo apt-get install nano
  3. Everytime you make a change you need to restart server run sudo service ssh restart

How to connect

  1. Run ssh your_username@host_ip_address
